All packed to go... weeelllll maybe.

Apparently there's this competition going on. I'm just catching up with it, but apparently whoever packs the lightest bag wins. This came to light at checkin when his bag was 4kgs heavier than her's. I'm still not sure what the prize is, but I'm sure I'll find out. Sorry, I've just been corrected... the difference was 4.1kgs. - and this didn't include the carry on bags where her's was also lighter than his.

So, in an attempt to understand this strange phenomenon, I asked Denise how she went about her packing. Apparently the trick is to lay everything out on the bed, leave it there for a couple of weeks and then put half the stuff back in the cupboard. Then you work out what the heaviest thing is in the suitcase (shoes) and take it out. Then you find the next heaviest thing (shoes) and take that out as well. You repeat this process until the suitcase is light enough to lift, then you give all the electronic stuff - well, most of it anyway - and all the lollies, that you're taking over to friends, to someone else to carry. The next part of the plan is to make sure you have full access to the other traveller's suitcase so you can 'borrow' stuff as necessary, and finally, you make sure your credit card is fully primed, so any and all 'necessary' items inadvertently left behind can be replaced as required.

Any questions? Let me know and I'll refer them to the appropriate person.

So anyway, we're staying in the Novotel at Auckland airport tonight and off we go tomorrow lunchtime to Bangkok. We're in an 'Eco-friendly' room with a see-through bathroom...??? There's an interesting statue outside the hotel. It's of Jean Batton, pioneer aviator. It's a very large statue and very well done, but unless you're going to the Novotel you wouldn't see it - which is a bit of a shame.

Sorry you can't see any detail, but 'cause it was late in the afternoon I had to take the photo into the sun. There'll probably end up being quie a few photos of statues on this blog, so thought I'd start off in Aotearoa.

More soon.
